002 Play [Video || Action]

[Tim is out in the park with a football. He's rigged up an old tire to swing from a tree limb and he's hammering the football through the tire. He jogs out to get the football then returns to do it again. Throwing passes aren't really his thing but catching passes takes more than one person. He actually looks fairly thoughtful for a change rather than confused. ]

Anybody wanna play catch or want to learn?

[Tim shrugs at that and runs his hand back through his hair. The curtsy makes him grin.]

Pretty sure m's'posed to bow back. You're probably goin' to have to help me with that one.

I do not expect it. [ Though it does please her that he seems willing to adapt a little to her world, if only by bowing. ]

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tim frowns and makes a clumsy bow then holds up the football in one hand.] Alright, so this is a football.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-18 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The bow makes her smile - not in a mocking manner though, however clumsy it might have been. ]

Very well. And what are the rules to this game? [ She doesn't want to play, but she's ever curious. ]

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not a complete jackass all of the time.]

Well that's the thing 'bout football. There's a ton of rules to remember. You gotta start with the goals. There's two teams with eleven guys on each team and everybody's got a position--a job to do. The goal of the game is gettin' this ball down to your end of the field while the other team tries to stop you.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
That does not sound too complicated so far.

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah without all the rules, it's real simple. [He balances the point of the ball between his fingers, spinning it a little as he talks. He's not really showing off. He just feels better with a football in his hands. He feels better doing something with it.]

Then they come 'round and screw everything up with rules 'bout how you can hit people. You can't hold 'em back. You can't interfere with a pass. You can't grab a guy by his facemask.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you not enjoy the additional rules, then?

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of 'em are alright. They're there so people don't get hurt but it's football, not a tea party. Sometimes all the extra rules just keep you from playin'.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-19 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
But if they prevent people from getting hurt, I should think them reasonable.

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Guess so. It's football. You're gonna get hurt eventually. There's also rules about forward motion. When a team has the ball they have to move it at least ten yards on every play. They get four chances to do that. If they don't, the ball goes to the other team.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you play a game that will lead to your getting hurt?

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
'Cause it's a hellva lotta fun. [The look on his face when he talks about football supports that statement.]

'Sides, it's one of the things I'm damn good at.

[He's got a point there. On a football field, Tim Riggins is a god. Everywhere else, not so much.]

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tessa studies him for a moment, then smiles. ] I don't think I would be particularly good at it, but I will watch.

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[That gets her one of those slow, lazy, utterly charming grins.]

Deal. And hey if you wanna spell my name out while I'm playin' that works for me.

[She can stay and watch Tim play football with all the various people coming along to play. He will absolutely show off for her.]

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tessa is most decidedly not blushing. ]

Why would I wish to spell out your name while you are playing?

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Of course not. Tim absolutely doesn't notice it either.]

Y'know for moral support.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There is nothing to notice. Carry on. ]

Why would my spelling your name offer you moral support?

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
'Cause I'd know you were on my side. Not the other guy's.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
But how would you even know I was spelling your name.

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You gotta shout the letters out loud enough I can hear 'em.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I will merely watch.

[identity profile] dillonrockstar.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. I'll be the guy catchin' the ball out there then.

[identity profile] likeboudica.livejournal.com 2011-10-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy the game. [ And she settles down on a nearby bench to watch. ]
