002 Play [Video || Action]

[Tim is out in the park with a football. He's rigged up an old tire to swing from a tree limb and he's hammering the football through the tire. He jogs out to get the football then returns to do it again. Throwing passes aren't really his thing but catching passes takes more than one person. He actually looks fairly thoughtful for a change rather than confused. ]

Anybody wanna play catch or want to learn?

[He catches it, takes a couple of steps back and throws it again.]

[His catches and tosses are more than just pretty good. He waited his whole life to be able to do this]

Well, it can be a little hard to get used to. Some of the people are swell, though.

[Tim catches the pass with a low whistle.] Nice pass.

[he takes a few more steps back to really turn it into a pass. It's not his thing so it's a little sloppy, a little wobbley but fairly accurate and falls into the category of 'pretty good'. If Steve wants to play football, Tim is all for it. They'll have a couple of teams thrown together before long even if it is just six man football.]

Yeah, everybody seems alright except for the part where most of 'em don't know crap about football.

[A BEAM. He seems so happy. He doesn't care about neatness or sloppiness, he's just having a good time]

I guess it's not such a big deal around here, right? I wanted to play when I was a kid but I didn't have the strength for it.

[Tim sees that smile and he has to smile in return. He thinks it's just because Steve loves the game and that's more than enough to make him smile.]

Yeah? Guess you do get some strength when you get older. I've been playin' since I was six. Football's a big deal where I'm from.

I had asthma when I was younger, too.

[He catches the pass. This is the happiest Tim has been since showing up here.]

Yeah? Never been there. Heard it's huge.

Guess so? I think it's probably more crowded than big.

Yeah, Dillon's the opposite. Not very many people, lots of open space. Don't it drive you crazy? All them people?

[Well it is for Tim. He's sort of hoping he's not the only one.]

Yeah, but after you meet some people and get to talking, things improve a whole lot.
