[He has the grace to look a bit bashful.]

Yeah...so shoes. [He gestures to an aisle full of them.] You want some help or do you know what you want?

I will certainly require help. [ That's-- a lot of shoes unlike any shoe Tessa has ever worn. ]

Okay you're probably gonna want somethin' lightweight and maybe low profile but with cushion in the ball 'cause that's where it's gonna hit the hardest when you run. [He wanders down the aisle picking up something that's light grey and hot pink.] Like this.

Ah. [ Tessa has no idea what he's talking about, but she nods anyhow.

She takes the shoes from him and looks around. Is she supposed to-- try them? Here and now? But she sees someone else doing just that, so she settles down on a chair and does just that.

The shoes look rather ridiculous with her dress, but they're more comfortable than she'd have expected. ]

These are very-- soft. [ So comfy. ]

[He grins watching her try them on and then nods.] Yeah? Billy, my older brother, used to always make me run 'round the store in new shoes to see if they were 'fast' so...[He gestures toward the aisles.]

You want me to run?

[ Here? Now?

Very well. She gathers up her skirts and takes a few cautious steps before trying for speed. ]

[He grins, chuckling softly every now and then while he turns on his heel, watching her.]

So they feel fast?

[ She comes to a stop in front of him, breathing a little faster. ]

They seem fine.

Alright. Well let's get 'em. You wanna wear 'em out? Billy always let me when I was a kid but it's up to you.

[ Well, the dress would probably hide them, mostly. And they are very comfortable. ]

Yes, I think I would like that.

[He's found her weakeness. Next it'll be sweats and tank tops.]

Okay, grab the box, we'll hit the register. You're probably gonna need some socks to go with 'em.

[ The potential might be there, but it's unlikely to happen. ]

Socks-- anything else, do you think?

You wanna try runnin' clothes too or gonna give the runnin' in a dress thing a shot?

[he doesn't have an opinion either way. He'll let her make that decision.]

[ The longest pause while she considers that. On the one hand, she's uncomfortable wearing anything but the dresses- they're what she's used to and some sort of connection with her background in a place where everything is different - not worse, really, but very very different. On the other hand, they're not useful for physical exercise. At all. If she's really going to do this running thing-- ]

Are there very-- modest running clothes?

[Tim chuckles a little at that.]

Bet we can find you a pair of sweat pants and a shirt that'll do.

In that case, I think I would like some running clothes as well.

Alright. [He picks up her old shoes, puts them in the box and gestures across the store.]

Let's head over there then.

[ Tessa is a little overwhelmed by the amount of choice. How is she to know what one wears for running? Or what her size is in any of these clothes?

A little wide-eyed, she turns to Tim. ]

I will need help again with choosing, I'm afraid.

[He grins a little and nods. He's looked at enough girls in clothes, he figures he ought to be able to handle this.]

Well what color do you like first of all?

[He's already looking through a rack of gray sweatpants, fitted but not skin tight, for a small. He pulls one out, glances at her and nods. All the skirts make it hard to judge just how big she is but her shoulders are tiny and she's short. Assuming she's proportional, he figures a small ought to fit.]

Blue is nice, and green. [ She's also looking at some sweatpants, but it's a very uncoordinated search. She doesn't even know what she's looking for. ]

[He rifles through a rack of long sleeved tee shirts with round necks that should be modest enough for her and comes up with a blue in a small too. He holds both of those out.]

You're gonna want a sports bra. M'not sure why but the girls at home bitch enough when they don't wear 'em.

[And he'll go ahead and start looking at a rack of those too.]

[ Tessa is going to try to pretend that this kind of thing is perfectly normal, but-- even with the amount of information telling her that times have changed, values have changed and that what was once forbidden is now common practice, the fact that Tim is in the process of picking out a bra for her (and she only knows what a bra is because she looked it up when it came up in a book she read, thank you) is shocking.

So she grabs the clothes he holds out to her and holds on to those. Staring at him looking at the rack with bras. Mutely. ]

[Tim flips through the sports bras on the rack, settling for a black one. He keeps taking glances at Tessa--yes her chest--as he attempts to judge the size she needs. He finally pulls out a medium and hands it to her.]

I think that'll fit. It's supposed to be tight.

[ Tessa notices one of those glances and holds the shirts he gave her closer, so that they hide her chest from view.

She takes the bra he's handed her, though. ]

I will try it all later. [ Marching to the register. ]

[It was all in the name of getting her the right size! Really!]

Sounds good to me. [He'll amble along behind him.]
